2. Filling a need/Stacking talent

Penn State’s 2023 defensive end board was starting to look thin. Very thin.

Former commit Neeo Avery decided he would not come back around to the Nittany Lions and left them out of his new top six. Mason Robinson, who honestly looked like a lock, committed to Northwestern back in May, shocking a lot of people.

Those two looked like they would join Jameial Lyons as the defensive ends in this class, but it wasn’t meant to be.

So, with the board lacking names, defensive line coach John Scott Jr. is able to pull off the upset and land Tomarrion Parker. All of a sudden, that board doesn’t look so thin.

Defensive end went from concern to landing a top 80 recruit in the country in the matter of a day.

Going forward, defensive end looks like a strength for the Nittany Lions.

They landed 5-star Dani Dennis-Sutton in the 2022 class and added Demeioun Robinson, who was a 5-star in the 2021 class, via the transfer portal. Add in 4-star recruits like Ken Talley (2022) and Jameial Lyons (2023) and this position is starting to look scary for opposing offenses.
