Penn State Football: will the Nittany Lions be better or worse at each position on offense?

Quarterbacks

At the top of the quarterback depth chart, Sean Clifford figures to improve in year two under Mike Yurcich. This will be the first time since 2019 that he will have the same coordinator for consecutive seasons, and with hopefully more help around him this year, should take a step forward and get back to being the Sean Clifford we saw three years ago.

However, it’s the second through fourth spots on the depth chart where the biggest change will be made.

Last season, Penn State Football had the worst quarterback room they’ve had in a number of years, in large part due to having virtually no depth – but that shouldn’t be a problem again in 2022.

The backup quarterback spot is presumably Christian Veilleux’s to lose, and although he saw limited action as a true freshman last year, he showed a lot of good things and will certainly be a more suitable backup than the departed Ta’Quan Roberson was.

Joining Clifford and Veilleux in the QB room is Drew Allar and Beau Pribula, both of which are obviously scholarship quarterbacks. Last season, Penn State only had three scholarship quarterbacks, so they immediately become a deeper quarterback room in that sense.

Not only that, but Allar and Pribula are both extremely talented, and although they’re young and inexperienced, have the abilities to make an impact when called upon.

Believe it or not, the Nittany Lions might have one of the best quarterback rooms in the country, and it will be a position that will be vastly improved from a year ago.
