Penn State Football extended an offer to in-state 2023 wide receiver Yazeed Haynes this weekend.

The offer to Haynes may give us more clarity on Penn State’s wide receiver target board for the 2023 recruiting cycle.

In the wake of the Nittany Lions’ top wide out target Rodney Gallagher committing to West Virginia, there was uncertainty surrounding where the staff would go from here when it came to targeting wide receivers.

Another possible target, 3-star Kenny Johnson, committed to Pitt on Saturday, shrinking the board more.

Penn State’s staff likely won’t lose much sleep over losing Johnson considering Haynes’ performance this past weekend.

Haynes earned the Penn State Football offer.

Haynes camped in Happy Valley this weekend and was one of the top performers. According to his Twitter, Haynes says he ran a 4.39 second 40-yard dash time during the camp. That speed, combined with his 6-foot-1 frame, makes him an intriguing prospect.

Penn State quarterback commit Marcus Stokes was also at the camp, and he seemed to enjoy linking up with Haynes.

Tyler Calvaruso of 247 Sports noted that the two looked to have a solid connection during camp drills. Encouraging to see.

Haynes de-committed from Rutgers back in May after receiving an offer from Minnesota. He must’ve known that bigger offers were around the corner, and it looks like he was correct in that assumption with Penn State now among his offers.

From Fort Washington, PA, Haynes is listed as the No. 145 wide receiver in the 247 Sports composite rankings. After his performance in front of representatives from 247 Sports, Rivals and On3 on Saturday, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him rise in the rankings.

Penn State and wide receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield found a couple diamonds in the rough last cycle, identifying Tyler Johnson and Omari Evans as legitimate options at wide receiver. It looks as though they may have done it again with Haynes a year later.
