Penn State football: what to expect in 2022

Though 2021 did not end the way most thought it would, there are still many things for Penn State fans to look forward to. Between recruiting, talent, experience, and more, Penn State football is still in good shape and could quickly put things together for another fantastic season in 2022.

Most sports outlets have the Nittany Lions at eight wins in 2022–a conservative guess seeing as Penn State has underperformed for the past two seasons–but one that can easily be proven wrong. The fact of the matter when it comes to Penn State football is this: the talent is there, there is veteran leadership, and the coaching staff has proven they can win in the past, so it’s now time to go out and show it with results.

So can Penn State have a good season in 2022? Depends on how you define good–but a 9-10 win regular season is very possible given the talent on this team. The key areas to watch will obviously be the offensive line, linebackers, and quarterbacks. These areas have been hot topics this off-season and will likely be very telling early in the season.

All of this said, eight wins should be the floor, not the expectation. Penn State can go 9-3 or better this season, especially with Allar and Clifford under center (yes, both quarterbacks can see the field as they have done at Michigan). Still, much remains to be seen, and nothing will be answered until the season kicks-off on September 1st, but heading into this season, the expectation for Penn State should be in the 9-3 range.

Getting back to winning needs to be a priority at Penn State right now–especially given James Franklin’s new contract–and that does not have to be a few years down the road. Penn State football needs to win now.

Next. Penn State needs to treat Purdue like a threat. dark
