1 Purdue

What is better than opening the season with a prime time road game? Maybe a conference opener at home, but the Big Ten won’t let that happen. Purdue is a brutal way to start the season. Penn States season could be over before it starts if it drops this game. That’s what makes this game a must for Penn State fans. Who cares about going to Michigan if the team is 3-2. This is also the road game I’m planning on attending, so there may be some bias here. Also, who doesn’t like to start a long weekend on a Thursday.

2. Auburn

This is a once in a lifetime trip for a Penn State fan. It’s unlikely that a SEC road opponent is going to pop up on Penn State’s schedule anytime soon. On the flip side of that, there’s no emotional stakes tied to this opponent. Also, you have to listen to a team nicknamed the Tigers chant about a War Eagle.

3. Michigan

Most seasons Michigan would be the marquee road game to attend. This game gets an extra bump if it turns out to be a night game. It’s one of the only stadiums that can exceed Beaver Stadium’s capacity. Plus, Michigan Sucks.

4. Indiana

Since the epic 2020 matchup, Indiana has a special place in my heart. That place causes indigestion and heart burn, but they are there. Indiana will not provide a great game day experience or a memorable stadium. Side Note:  How many consecutive years can you view a game as a revenge game?

5. Rutgers

The “Birthplace of College Football” is anything but a hostile environment or a great fan experience. This is the easiest road opponent on the schedule. While it almost guarantees a win, it’s probably not worth the time and money to attend.
