Do we now have clarity on the Penn State Football Whiteout?
The Big Ten Conference released additional schedule information on Thursday, and it may have hinted at which game will be the Penn State Football Whiteout.
Penn State Football’s Oct. 22 matchup against Minnesota has been scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kick according to a schedule graphic released by the Big Ten on Twitter.
The game is also Penn State’s Homecoming, it’s rare that a homecoming game is a night game, but that will be the case this upcoming season.
Penn State’s game against Ohio State, which is scheduled a week after the Minnesota game, was not included in the schedule release. It is uncommon for a team to get back-to-back home night games though, so the odds that the matchup with the Buckeyes is a day game are now a little higher.
Penn State usually reserves the Whiteout for the biggest game on the schedule, but that game is usually a night game as well. With the writing on the wall that Ohio State is going to likely be a day game, people are curious if the program will prioritize opponent (Ohio State) or night game (Minnesota).
Ohio State had been the annual Whiteout Game the last three times the Buckeyes visited Happy Valley with fans in the stands.
The program is also interested to see what the fans think, as they released a Twitter poll earlier this week. The poll received over 5,000 votes with 68% of responses in favor of a night game.
Minnesota isn’t a bad Plan B by any means. The Gophers are expected to compete in the Big Ten West, with some even picking them to win the division. Penn State fans are also looking for revenge after the Gophers handed the Nittany Lions their first loss of the season back in 2019 after starting 8-0.
With all this in mind, Minnesota now looks like the front runner for the Whiteout.
