Right Guard

Penn State’s offensive line in 2022 seems to be almost set, aside from one position.

Sal Wormley was lined up to start at left guard last season for the Nittany Lions until he suffered an injury in training camp. Now this season, he’ll be in a battle with the All-Ivy League transfer from Cornell, Hunter Nourzad, to start at right guard.

This competition is arguably the most important of the offseason for Penn State Football, as they search for answers along the offensive line, particularly on the interior to help the inside running game.

Nourzad played tackle at Cornell, so marry that with the fact that he will face much tougher competition in the Big Ten, and Wormley might currently be the favorite to win the starting job at right guard.

The winner of this uber-important position battle could be on a relatively short leash to begin the season, whereas the loser will help to provide some necessary depth for Phil Trautwein’s unit and replace the starter if their performance goes south.
