5. Minnesota

When you think about loaded Big Ten offenses, that 2019 Minnesota squad certainly comes to mind, but the 2022 group isn’t too bad either.

The reason this group may not stand out is because a lot of the talent suffered injuries last season.

The Golden Gophers have one of the better running back duos in the nation with Mohamed Ibrahim and Trey Potts. Unfortunately, both of these talented backs suffered season-ending injuries last season.

Ibrahim suffered his injury during the first game of the season, but in 2020 he rushed for 1,076 yards and 15 touchdowns on 201 attempts, keep in mind this was a seven-game season. In five games in 2021, Potts rushed the ball 112 times for 552 yards and six touchdowns.

As for pass catchers, the group is highlighted by Chris Autman-Bell. Autman-Bell was banged up at times last season but still caught 36 passes for 506 yards and six touchdowns. Complementing Autman-Bell is junior Mike Brown-Stephens, who caught 23 passes for 392 yards and a touchdown last season.

Tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford rounds out the group; he caught 23 passes for 296 yards and a touchdown last year.

If this group can stay healthy, it’s one of the more balanced attacks in the conference.
