2. Welcome to the NIL Era

We all know where now second-year head coach Micah Shrewsberry came from, right?  So, could Penn State try to take some concepts from the Boilermakers jerseys?  The front of the jerseys don’t appear to be that different from the Nittany Lions…both have the school name on the front and in the center with the number below.  Both have Nike swooshes in the top right and the USA/B1G logo in the top left.

The shorts are even almost the same…a striping down the side and a small logo on the bottom.  The only difference is on Purdue’s home white shorts, the stripe includes both the brown and black colors of the Boilermakers whereas the Nittany Lions is just a blue stripe on the already white shorts.

So, what COULD Penn State take from Purdue?

Look away alumni, but there’s one difference we haven’t discussed yet.  That’s right, the Boilermakers have names on the back of their jerseys.  Could Penn State go down a similar route?  In a player-driven world, could the names on the back be helpful for recruiting?  In a NIL-driven world, could names on the back help student-athletes earn even more money?

This could be a difficult pill to swallow for the Nittany Lions but it may be around the corner…
