Penn State Football: Making that case for each young QB to be Sean Clifford’s backup
By Nick Kreiser
Penn State Football true freshman QB – Beau Pribula
If Beau Pribula shocks the fanbase and earns the backups quarterback spot coming out of fall camp, it will be because of a few main reasons, the first of which being his athleticism.
It is no secret that, despite only being a true freshman, Pribula is the most athletic quarterback on the roster, often drawing comparisons to some guy named Trace McSorley, due to his ability to extend plays and make something out of nothing with his legs.
The second reason that could allow the Central York product to win the backup quarterback competition, is his accuracy. He doesn’t have as big and powerful of an arm as his counterpart in Drew Allar, but sometimes, quarterbacks with big arms struggle with accuracy on the short to intermediate throws, especially those that require some ‘touch’.
If Pribula can prove that he is the most accurate passer of the three young quarterbacks, which he certainly can do as that is one of his strengths, it would go a long way towards helping him win that position battle.
The final attribute(s) that could help this true freshman this offseason are the intangibles. Things such as coachability, poise, leadership, the ability to learn the playbook quickly, and not making the same mistake twice, are all crucial for a quarterback to be successful. Excelling in many of, if not all of those areas, could be enough for Beau Pribula to win the job as the backup quarterback for Penn State Football.
