With Sean Clifford returning as the starting quarterback, Penn State Football looks to find out which freshman quarterback is best suited to fill the backup role to begin the 2022 season.

The competition to determine who will be Sean Clifford’s backup is arguably the most compelling of all the offseason position battles for Penn State Football.

Although it is very limited, Christian Veilleux is the only quarterback on the roster (outside of Clifford, of course) that has any game experience at the collegiate level.

He is joined in the QB room by a pair of talented and intriguing young prospects, Drew Allar and Beau Pribula.

There is still a long way to go until the season opener at Purdue, but the development and performances of these three young quarterbacks throughout spring practice will go a long way toward determining who will earn the backup role.

Here is a look at why each of the three freshman quarterbacks for Penn State Football might be able to win the job as Sean Clifford’s backup.
