It’s never too early to predict the hierarchy of one of the more powerful conferences in college football. How do Penn State Football, and the Big Ten Football conference shake out?

In 2021 we learned several things about the schools in the Big Ten Conference.

Hell can freeze over as Michigan finally beat Ohio State.

Indiana performed its best Wile E. Coyote impression and fell off a cliff after their impressive 2020 season. You can have a nine-overtime game featuring a ranked Penn State Football team and still hit the under.

The great thing about college football is as every new season starts, fanbases start to forget about the past and believe that this is their team’s year. Just ask Nebraska fans.

A Fun little fact before we jump into the rankings. The Big Ten is the only conference in the FBS that did not have a head coaching change in the offseason. Boring right. That means we can’t just bump a school up because they hired the next Nick Saban.

With that said, here are the Way Too Early Big Ten Football Power Rankings, including where Penn State Football stands

2021 Record: 2-10 (0-9)

Very few teams take as big a step back as Indiana did in 2021. The Hoosiers finished 2020 ranked 12th and followed that historic season with a goose egg in conference play last season. Indiana could only muster wins against Idaho and Western Kentucky.

Optimism for Indiana will be hard to find. Sure, you can try and point to injuries as part of the problem in 2021, but every team goes through that. Indiana did land their new quarterback Conner Bazelak, a transfer from Missouri. Bazelak will be an upgrade over the production that Indiana got out of the position last season.

There still are too many weaknesses on this Indiana team for them to compete at a high level in the Big Ten this season. Head Coach Tom Allen will have to work a miracle to keep Indiana out of last place in the East Division.
