Penn State Football: 5 key position battles to watch throughout spring practice
By Nick Kreiser
Spring football has finally arrived for the Nittany Lions, and there will be plenty of position battles to watch as Penn State Football looks to rebound from a second-half collapse last season.
Some of these competitions and position battles will involve some of Penn State Football’s most highly touted true freshmen, including Drew Allar and Nicholas Singleton.
Here is a look at the pair of former five-star recruits in action together during their first practice as a member of the Nittany Lions.
As everyone might expect, with Allar and Beau Pribula enrolling early to compete with Christian Veilleux and Sean Clifford, all eyes will be drawn towards the Nittany Lions‘ signal callers this spring.
Additionally, after the Nittany Lions averaged an abysmal 3.2 yards per rush last season, improving the running game will be perhaps the main focal point of the offseason, and a big part of that is finding the right combination at running back.
While the offensive line certainly plays a big role in the success of the rushing attack, we seem to have a good indication of what the depth chart at those positions will look like this spring.
On defense, Penn State Football will need to replace many of its best and most productive players from 2021, resulting in some key position battles at all levels of the defense.
Who can the Nittany Lions turn to as an effective pass rusher, who will start at middle linebacker, and who will step in and attempt to fill the shoes of one of the best safeties in Penn State Football history?
