Penn State Wrestling’s Roman Bravo-Young, Nick Lee, and Carter Starocci make the finals for the selection of the 2022 Dan Hodge Trophy
In collegiate wrestling, the Dan Hodge Trophy is the most coveted individual award in all of the sport. Awarded annually to the nation’s best college wrestler, the list of greats who have won one since its inception in 1995 is a who’s who of collegiate legends.
And the panel for the 2022 year has just announced its finalists where Penn State Wrestling standouts Nick Lee and Carter Starocci are honored with their first selection in the finals and Roman Bravo-Young makes his second consecutive finals appearance.
Head coach Cael Sanderson is no stranger to the Dan Hodge and neither are the Nittany Lions.
Sanderson is the only three-time Dan Hodge winner as he took home the trophy in 2000, 2001, and 2002.
Kerry McCoy was the first Nittany Lion winner when he was awarded the distinguished award after his amazing season at heavyweight in 1997.
Since then, David Taylor (two-time winner 2012 and 2014), Zain Retherford (two-time winner 2017 and 2018), and Bo Nickal (2019) are the other outstanding Penn State grapplers to win the award.
It’s no surprise Gable Steveson is the front runner to win the 2022 trophy but with the incredible seasons RBY, Nick Lee, and Carter Starocci put together, you never know.
The Nittany Lions may have yet another Dan Hodge Trophy winner before you know it.
