Former Penn State Basketball head coach Pat Chambers could be on the verge of landing another head coaching gig

Head Coach Pat Chambers? Sure has a familiar ring to it.

According to a report from Jeff Borzello, Pat Chambers is a finalist for the open head coaching position at Florida Gulf Coast.

The Eagles finished 21-11 this year, 10-6 in the American Sun Confedence.  They finished third in the conference during the regular season and lost in the conference tournament semifinals.

Florida Gulf Coast was coached by Michael Fly these past four years, and the athletic director called his firing a ‘gut-wrenching decision’.  Fly was 55-59 during his tenure.

Chambers was an assistant for Jay Wright at Villanova before becoming the head coach at Boston University, taking them to the NCAA Tournament.  He was hired at Penn State in the Summer of 2011, following Ed DeChellis who departed for Navy.

Chambers struggled out of the gate with an incredibly bare cupboard and the Sandusky saga hit the Nittany Lion program.  However, Penn State Basketball won the NIT under Chambers and reached #9 in the AP Poll, assured a NCAA Tournemnt berth, before the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chambers was fired from Penn State following an investigation that he used the word ‘noose’ in front of an African American athlete who had previously transferred from the program.
