Penn State Basketball has advanced to the Quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament, taking on the No. 3 seed Purdue Boilermakers

Penn State Basketball (14-16, 7-13), led by head coach Micah Shrewsberry and returning starters Seth Lundy and friend of VBR John Harrar (dowload his app!) face off against the Purdue Boilermakers today, Friday, March 11th (3/11/2022) at approximately 9:00 pm in Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on the Big Ten Network (BTN).

The Nittany Lions already lost to Shrewsberry’s former team two months ago in a close game held in the Bryce Jordan Center.

The Purdue Boilermakers (25-6, 14-6) finished third in the conference, earning a double-bye in the tournament, so this will be their first game (compared to Penn State Basketball who will be playing their third game in three days.

The Boilers are led by frontcourt Zach Edey (14.7 points, 7.6 rebounds) and Travion Williams (11.6 points, 7.3 rebounds), and All-Big Ten guard Jaden Ivey (17.2 points, 37% from three).

ESPN’s BPI gives Penn State Basketball just a 9.9% chance of winning, their lowest in a long, long time.

Penn State Basketball will be playing its third game in three days. That’s a tall task for any team, especially vs. a Purdue squad that’s had almost a week off.

These teams know each other and there is definitely a preferred pace differential between the two teams. Purdue can use Ivey to get up and down and have shooters like Sasha Stefanovic that can make quick, killer runs.  Penn State will have to maintain control of pace, especially considering their likely far more tired legs.

But all year long, teams failed to deliver the knockout blow against this Nittany Lions team.

Ohio State went up 13 Thursday night, but couldn’t put PSU away. This is a Purdue team that has legitimate final four aspirations and there’s no question they have more talent.
