Penn State Basetball headed to Charleston Classic in 2022-2023 season

Penn State Basketball will be taking part in an early-season tournament next fall, the 2022 Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic

Penn State Basektball announced their participation in the 2022 Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic in the 2022-2023 upcoming season.

The Charleston Classic is held on November 17th, 18th, and 20th in the TD Arena in Charleston, South Carolina.

Next season’s field is highlighted by the 2018 Charleston Classic champion Virginia Tech, the hometown favorites the University of South Carolina and Furman, 2021-2022 Atlantic 10 champion Davidson and Colorado State, who was ranked most of the season and Old Dominion.

Penn State Basketball last played in the 2014 iteration of this tournament when they fell to Charlotte 106-95 in the first round and then beat Cornell in an amazing walk-off winner from DJ Newbill (72-71) and beat USC in the fith place game.

Penn State Basketball also participated in the tournament back in 2009, where they finished in 8th place after losing to University of North Carolina Wilmington, Tulane and Davidson.

The 2021-2022 Nittany Lions regular season is complete with an 11th place finish in the Big Ten Conference at 12-16 (7-13).  Penn State will take on the #14 seed Minnesota Golden Gophers tomorrow night in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament.
