Penn State Football is beefing up the Nittany Lions’ recruiting department, under head coach James Franklin, adding a position to monitor the transfer portal
James Franklin and Penn State Football are bolstering their recruiting efforts.
According to FootballScoop, Penn State Football is adding Rashard Rich to their coaching staff for the upcoming 2022 football season.
Rich is expected to be added as an assistant recruiting coordinator, focusing on working with high school coaches and the ever-important transfer portal. He has worked previously with scouting for the Chicago Bears and most recently as a scout for the Saskatchewan Rough Rider Club of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Prior to his NFL and CFL experience, Rich was the Director of Football Performance for Perfect Performance, being promoted from the Strength and Conditioning/Wide Receivers Coach.
The Bacone College graduate most importantly spent time coaching high school football for both Bishop McNamara High School (Forestville, Maryland) and Bishop O’Connell High School (Arlington, Virginia).
This hire by Franklin seems to signal increased Nittany Lions‘ recruiting presence in the ‘DMV’ (District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia), a well-known recruiting hotbed in collegiate football,.
Rashard Rich would likely be an ‘off the field’ role on the coaching staff, meaning he wouldn’t be involved in gameday coaching preparations/decisions but would likely be traveling to recruting areas to help further Penn State’s recruting footprint all along the east coast.
