November 6, 2006 (Bryce Jordan Center): Shippensburg 67 — Penn State 61

Before scrimmages were ‘held behind closed doors’, Penn State often played against a DII in-state school.  In 2006, they hosted PSAC school Shippensburg.  Penn State didn’t play starters Geary Claxton and David ‘Mooch’ Jackson.  The Red Raiders won the 2nd half by fifteen points and their star Chuck Davis finished with 29 points.

Penn State committed 20 turnoevers and prompted the following post-game coach from then Head Coach Ed DeChellis: “Shippensburg did a good job getting into us.  We kept throwing the ball to a guy that was guarded instead of back cutting and getting a lay-up out of it. Those guys were going to play us hard, and they did. Hopefully, it will be a learning experience

Does this game count?  Technically it was a scrimmage and the refrain from the then student section ‘Nitwits’ was “what loss to Shippensburg, show me where it happened in the record books…” but unfortunately this writer was in the gym that night and witnessed this truly embarrassing loss.
