Penn State Football recruiting: 2023 mock class 1.0
Cornerback (2)
Penn State Football already has one cornerback in place, with 4-star Lamont Payne committed.
The question as to who will join Payne in the cornerback’s room is a bit cloudy though.
There is a fellow Pennsylvania recruit in 3-star Shawn Battle, he took two visits over the Summer to Happy Valley and was back for a game in September, but never pulled the trigger on a commitment.
Joining Battle on the board is 3-star Antonio Cotman Jr. from Virginia. Cotman is cousins with now-former Penn State linebacker Ellis Brooks, who is off to the NFL. Like many other targets previously discussed, Cotman was on campus for a visit in January. The issue is that at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, Cotman may move off of the corner position and use his size better at safety or linebacker, as he will likely gain more weight once he enters college.
Expanding the board, Florida 4-star Antonio Robinson visited last July and Damari Brown, another Florida 4-star, was in attendance for the Michigan game back in November. Michigan 4-star Amare Snowden was at the Whiteout against Auburn, but he’s listed at 6-foot-3 and 187 pounds, so it’s unclear if corner will be his position in college.
This is another position where a late riser later in the cycle could emerge as a target for the Nittany Lions.
The Picks: Lamont Payne & Shawn Battle
