Freshman of The Year

Carter Starocci
15-0

Ranked Wins
No. 21 Nick Incontrera (Penn) major decision 13-3
No. 12 Chris Foca (Cornell) decision 3-2
No. 6 Logan Massa (Michigan) decision 3-2
No. 2 Michael Kemerer (Iowa) decision 2-1

What more can be said about Carter Starocci? I mean, seriously?

All he does is step onto the mat, win, and then get better for the next time he gets into the circle. Starocci has been one of the most consistent Nittany Lion grapplers all season and he’s a big reason for why Penn State Wrestling is undefeated.

From his dominant showing against both Penn and Lehigh, to his gutsy matches against top ranked foes, to his MVP performance in the Iowa dual meet. Carter has done it all, and contrary to popular opinion, he is indeed still technically a freshman. Which is good news for Penn State fans and really bad news for everyone else.

And while the regular season was smooth sailing for Starocci, the Big Ten Championships will be yet another test for the talented freshman as five of the top seven ranked wrestlers at 174 reside in the Big Ten.

But something tells me Carter Starocci will be prepared and he will be ready for the challenge.
