Penn State Basketball Game Friday: Penn State vs Northwestern odds, injury report, prediction, live stream and TV channel
By Evan Smith
Penn State Basketball plays an odd Friday evening game hosting Northwestern, before returning to the Bryce Jordan Center Sunday vs Nebraska.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Penn State basketball, led by head coach Micah Shrewsberry, and returning starters Seth Lundy and friend of VBR John Harrar (download his app!) welcome the Northwestern Wildcats to town Friday, February 25th (2/25/2022) at 7:00 pm for Senior Night in the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, PA on FS1.
Northwestern (13-13, 6-11) is just a half-game back of Penn State Basketball for 10th in the Big Ten Conference standings. 10th place is an important position because it means you don’t have to play Wednesday in the Big Ten Tournament.
Northwestern was expected to contend for an NCAA Tournament spot but two four-game conference losing streaks have doomed the Wildcats’ chances. However, right at .500, they are fighting for a spot in the NIT (National Invitational Tournament), a tournament PSU had hoped for until Monday night’s loss at Maryland.
The Wildcats are led by forward Pete Nance, averaging 15.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game.
A familiar face to the Nittany Lions, guard Boo Buie is averaging 15.0 points and leads the team in assists at 4.4 per game. Buie is the brother of former Nittany Lion great and former assistant coach until this year, Talor Battle.
It seems like a hundred years ago, but Penn State defeated Northwestern on January 5th in Evanston, the Nittany Lions’ lone road win in the entire 2021-2022 season.
At that point, Penn State Basketball moved to 2-2 in the conference and NCAA Tournament hopes swept across Happy Valley.
Of course, since then, Penn State has gone 4-8 and won’t be playing in the postseason this year.

Penn State Basketball vs Northwestern University Prediction
ESPN’s BPI gives Penn State Basketball a 61.7% chance of winning.
Penn State’s played incredibly well at home this year. Usually, BPI is lower on the Nittany Lions than the metrics of KenPom and the NET. So this is a unique situation, where BPI is leaning PSU but the metrics state Northwestern should win. With the Wildcats still fighting for an NIT berth, you have to figure they’ll come out strong. However, it’s senior night and while who knows which seniors will return (Sessoms, Dread and Pickett all eligible), for sure it’s a chance to honor the heart and soul of the team, fifth year senior John Harrar (along with Cornwall, Lee and White).
A win tomorrow paried with being huge favorites hosting Nebraska Sunday could mean an 8 win conference season for the Nittany Lions…
