Penn State Football could be on the cusp of fielding a backfield duo that rivals some of the greatest in Nittany Lions history

The arrival of 5-star quarterback Drew Allar and 5-star running back Nick Singleton to Happy Valley has Penn State Football fans looking forward to the next great backfield duo in program history.

Allar and Singleton look like a perfect backfield on paper, but the true freshmen will have to prove it on the field down the road.

Penn State Football has had plenty of duos prove it on the field throughout the years, and hopefully these two eventually join the others in Nittany Lions program history.

Some of the past Penn State Football backfields broke records, others won championships, and some are labeled with the “what ifs”.

They all brought something different to the table and all hold a place in Penn State Football fans’ hearts for different reasons.

Ranking them seems almost impossible and there probably is not a correct answer, but let’s give this a shot. Here are the top five best backfields in Penn State history.
