Penn State Football: 6 Burning questions for Nittany Lions’ offseason
By Nick Kreiser
Question #3 – Will Penn State Football make any more transfer portal additions?
At this point, James Franklin and the Nittany Lions have made just two additions through the transfer portal. They brought in wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley from Western Kentucky, and offensive lineman Hunter Nourzad from Cornell.
Both Tinsley and Nourzad are key pickups at positions of need, and will play big time roles on offense in the upcoming season.
Mitchell Tinsley’s former Western Kentucky teammate, Cole Spencer, has entered the transfer portal and the Nittany Lions seem to be an early frontrunner to land the two-time all-Conference USA offensive tackle.
Penn State Football could certainly use some additions at some other positions, namely defensive end and linebacker, where depth could be an issue in 2022.
There are currently no noteworthy defensive ends or linebackers in the transfer portal, but there is usually a wave of players across the country that enter the portal after spring practice. Will a linebacker worth offering become available in the spring, and if so, can James Franklin and Manny Diaz land him?
Chances are, the Nittany Lions will only add one or two more players from the portal this offseason, but those players could wind up being key contributors in 2022 and beyond.
Will James Franklin and his staff be able to fill some roster holes via the mighty transfer portal in the coming months?
