The Boilermakers move up a spot to No. 10 in this edition of the Big Ten Wrestling Power Rankings. And I think the words “up and down” would best describe Purdue’s 2021-2022 season so far.
Purdue started off the season a perfect 6-0 in dual meets before they traveled to Sin City to participate in this year’s CKLV.
The Boilermakers had a disappointing tournament in the Cliff Keen as they finished in sixth place behind teams (Wyoming and Northwestern) you would expect them to normally beat.
The downward turn continued with Purdue falling to Iowa State 23-13 even though the Boilermakers jumped out to an 11-0 lead to open the dual. They then followed this up with a 9th place finish in the Matmen Open.
However, an 18-15 win against Nebraska in Lincoln proved Purdue had a solid squad and they could go toe to toe against some of the best teams in the nation. Things were starting to look up!
The Boilermakers next lost 36-4 against Iowa in Iowa City. And then lost to Michigan State 17-16.
Well …
The rollercoaster season continued with a win against Illinois 25-13, a loss to Wisconsin 23-12, a nail-biting win against Indiana 17-16, and then a shocking win against Minnesota 18-14.
Next up for Purdue is an away dual against Northwestern on February 19th at 1:00 p.m. where the Boilermakers will either continue their winning ways or come crashing back down to earth.
It’s anyone’s guess.
