What Penn State Football can expect from heralded early enrollees

Penn State Football defensive back – Cam Miller
According to his 247 Sports evaluation, Cam Miller’s athletic profile “is one of the best in the entire 2022 cycle.” They did say, however, that he has a lot of room to grow from a technical and fundamental standpoint.
What better than for him to get to work early with Anthony Poindexter and Terry Smith?
At 6-feet tall and 180 pounds, he has a good, long frame to be a difference-maker in the defensive backfield in the near future, once he gets coached up a little.
He could play either cornerback or safety, and the Nittany Lions certainly could benefit from more depth at both of the spots in 2022.
At cornerback, assuming Joey Porter Jr and Kalen King are the starters (with Daequan Hardy at the nickel), Miller has an opportunity to compete with Johnny Dixon and Marquis Wilson to crack the two-deep.
The safety position will see Ji’Ayir Brown as one of the starters, with either Keaton Ellis or Jaylen Reed as the other. The true freshman from Florida also has a chance to crack the two-deep at that position if he is able to make the most out of his extra time to develop during these next few months.
He can also use this time to learn from a seasoned veteran in Brown, who led the team in interceptions in 2021.
At this point, it doesn’t seem very likely that the Nittany Lions will be able to make any additions to the secondary via the transfer portal, and as the lone defensive back from the 2022 class that enrolled early, Cam Miller has an excellent opportunity to get off to a good start in his college football career.
The secondary was one of the strengths of the 2021 Penn State Football team, and for that to carry into 2022, some young guys (especially Cam Miller), will need to get up to speed with the college game quickly to provide some depth in the defensive backfield.
