What Penn State Football can expect from heralded early enrollees

Penn State Football tight end – Jerry Cross
The Nittany Lions return their top three tight ends from 2021 in Brenton Strange, Theo Johnson, and Tyler Warren. So, Jerry Cross has his work cut out for him if he wants to make an impact on the field in 2022.
Thomas Frank Carr of Blue White Illustrated said that Cross has the potential to be a very good in-line blocking tight end, which should be good news for Penn State Football fans, as the tight ends struggled in that aspect this past season.
The true freshman tight end has great size at 6-foot-5, 255 pounds, and has decent speed, but he still has a long way to go until he is ready to make a major impact in the Big Ten.
Cross can use this head start on his college career and development to improve in nearly all facets of his game, including getting stronger and more refined as a route runner.
As for the team, the benefit of his early enrollment is probably more of a long-term deal. Being that he will be behind a trio of very solid tight ends in 2022, Cross might struggle to see much playing time as a true freshman. However, enrolling in the spring semester means that for the 2023 season and beyond, Jerry Cross will be about six months ahead of where he otherwise would have been, had he not joined the team in January.
