Penn State Basketball looks to earn their second winning streak in conference play after picking up a big win over Rutgers on THON night. Penn State already hosted the Buckeyes, making this the first team the Nittany Lions will see for a second time.
Despite the Legion of Blue’s best efforts (our pleas to show respect fell on deaf ears), former Nittany Lion Jamari Wheeler led Ohio State to a fairly easy victory. Wheeler played 37 minutes and beat the Lions in all aspects of the game, finishing with 9 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.

The Nittany Lions (8-6, 3-3) are in a tie for 7th in the conference and are led by Seth Lundy’s 14.1 points per game and John Harrar, who is averaging a double-double with 11.1 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Sam Sessoms leads the team in three-point shooting (45.9% clip).
Ohio State (10-4, 4-3) is ranked 16th in the nation and currently sits in a tie for 4th in the conference. The Buckeyes are led by all-conference forward E.J. Lidell, averaging 19.9 points and 7.1 rebounds while shooting almost 40% from three.
The balanced Buckeyes have eight players averaging over 6 points a game and are stout down low with Kyle Young and Zed Key joining Liddell in the front court. And who can forget the PSU graduate Jamari Wheeler, who’s continuing his ‘do it all’ play with 7.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.6 steals while shooting 37% from beyond the arc.

Jevonnie Scott (2 points, 1 rebound and a turnover in 5 minutes) finally played his first game for the Nittany Lions after head coach Micah Shrewsberry stated he was ‘eligible’ to return over a month ago.
Caleb Dorsey still has not played since Penn State’s return from their Covid-19 induced break but no word if it’s a health issue or not. Jaheam Cornwall, who started the previous 5 games did not play vs Rutgers. No questions were asked to Shrewsberry about this in the post-game conference so we don’t know if it was a healthy scratch or not.
Justice Sueing has returned for the Buckeyes but Seth Towns is out with a back injury and is not projected to return until late January.
