Utah State, Boise State’s special teams dominance

Collins really cut his teeth coaching at Utah State, bringing with him the success he saw coaching for the South Dakota Mines.  He was the Special Teams Coordinator in 2016 and moved to coaching inside linebackers in 2017 and 2018.  When Matt Wells’ left for Texas Tech, he actually stayed with the new coaching staff (Head Coach Gary Andersen, yes that Gary Andersen the former coach of the Wisconsin Badgers).

Andersen moved him to running backs but the next year was moved to defensive backs.  The following year, he moved to Boise State where he was once again the Special Teams Coordinator and coached the ‘edge’ outside linebackers.

Franklin is clearly hoping that the success of Collins’ special teams units at his prior stops will give the Nittany Lions’ teams a boost.
