The Nittany Lions got huge news on Tuesday when defensive tackle PJ Mustipher announced he will be returning to campus for a final season in 2022

Penn State Football got some great news to kick off the new year when defensive tackle PJ Mustipher announced earlier today via Twitter he will be returning next season.

Mustipher was the glue along a dominant Nittany Lions defensive line that faltered down the stretch after he suffered a season-ending injury.

Mustipher suffered a season-ending injury in the early going of the Iowa game this year and will return for his fifth season in the blue and white in 2022.

Despite only playing in five games the senior totaled 21 tackles and a sack, anchoring the middle of that line that saw a prohibitive drop in production once he was sidelined with an injury.

The first game Penn State Football played with out him, Illinois rushed for 357 yards in the nine overtime victory at Beaver Stadium.

For his career, Mustipher has racked up 107 total tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles but was playing his best football of his career early on in 2021.

With the Maryland native back in the fold next season, the defensive tackle position will be among the deepest on the roster. Dvon Ellies and Coziah Izzard saw a lot of playing time this past seaosn, and were productive. If Hakeem Beamon gets back in the rotation, this will be a scary interior defensive front for the Nittany Lions next season.
