Penn State Wrestling lands the No. 10 ranked recruit, Josh Barr, in the 2023 wrestling recruiting class

Penn State Wrestling coach Cael Sanderson has been doing some work in the recruiting trail so far this year as Josh Barr made the decision to continue his post-high school wrestling career in Happy Valley.

Barr is a two-time MHSAA state champion and recently won the 2021 Fargo freestyle championship. The Davison, Michigan native is now the second recruit to commit to the Nittany Lions in the 2023 class, joining Braeden Davis.

It seems there is something in the water in Davison, Michigan as they continue to churn out top-class wrestlers year after year.

Alex Facundo, the No. 2 overall recruit in the 2021 class, also strapped on the singlet for The Cardinals and it’s safe to say Cael Sanderson is looting Michigan for all of its wrestling riches.

While Penn State Wrestling only landed a single recruit from the 2022 class (Levi Haines No. 11 overall recruit), it looks like the 2023 class could still have room for more commits.

With Braeden Davis looking to wrestle in a lighter-weight class, Barr is projected to fill into a 174 or 184 pounder. And as I just mentioned, look for Cael Sanderson to possibly add one or two more guys to round out the class.

And if you’re happy about the news now, just imagine how happy you’ll be after the Nittany Lions massacre Maryland this Friday, January 7th!

The dual starts at 7:00pm and we’ll have the full results of how everything went down shortly after the conclusion.
