Star safety enters transfer portal, should be Penn State Football target
Northwestern safety Brandon Joseph entered the transfer portal on Thursday and the former Big Ten freshman of the year would be a perfect fit for the Nittany Lions to replace Jaquan Brisker
Players enter the transfer portal at an alarming rate everyday, however ever so often a name enters the portal that will stop you in your tracks. Penn State Football should have one of those moments, waking up New Year’s Eve.
Former Northwestern safety Brandon Joseph’s name makes you do just that, stop in your tracks.
Penn State Football should be reaching out to Joseph yesterday, as he would be the perfect fit in new defensive coordinator Manny Diaz’s defense, replacing safety Jaquan Brisker in the defensive backfield.
As a redshirt freshman in 2020, Joseph won Big Ten freshman of the year with 59 total tackles, two pass breakups and an astounding six interceptions in a covid-shortened season. He will be most remembered by that one handed interception in the end zone against Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship game.
A consensus All-American coming into this past season the College Station, Texas native collected 80 tackles to go with a sack, four pass breakups and three more interceptions.
Why Brandon Joseph is perfect transfer portal fit for Penn State Football
The former three star recruit out of high school did not have many big time offers coming out of high school, only seven power five offers, will have his say of where he ends up now that he is in the transfer portal and should have just about every team in the nation vying for his services.
Penn State Football head coach James Franklin was aggressive in the portal last offseason and has already made a splash this time around with the addition of former Western Kentucky wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley.
Getting Joseph to Happy Valley would be his biggest coup yet though however.
With Brisker off the the NFL, along with Brandon Smith, Ellis Brooks, Arnold Ebiketie and likely Jesse Luketa, their is a lot of production on that defense to replace. Those names represent five of the top six tacklers from 2021 and were the leaders of the defense.
The former Wildcat could come in and pair with safety Ji’Ayir Brown who announced he will be returning next year, and make for a deadly safety tandem and again give the Nittany Lions a very strong secondary.
Franklin has let some big names enter the portal and go elsewhere already this offseason, Joseph should be the top of the priority list for this staff in the coming days.
