Rather than stocking up on dual meets early this season, Michigan decided to participate in a couple of tournaments. Namely the Michigan State Open and the star-studded Cliff Kleen Las Vegas Invitational.

The Wolverines were able to capture a lone title in the MSU Open and they finished in a distant third place in the CKLV behind Ohio State and the event winner Nebraska.

And Michigan has racked up a perfect record in the handful of duals they’ve wrestled which includes a 39-3 win over CSU Bakersfield, a 34-3 victory against Columbia, and a 31-3 win over Buffalo. Not exactly the cream of the crop there but a win is a win in collegiate wrestling.

But here’s the catch with trying to evaluate this year’s Michigan team; the Wolverines that wrestled so far this season is not going to be the same team which competes the rest of the year.

Former NCAA Champion Nick Suriano recently transferred into the program and it appears he would best fit in at 125. Furthermore 17th year senior* and No. 3 ranked Stevan Micic has yet to suit up and hit the mat. Same goes for Myles Amine who is ranked No. 2 after dropping down to 184 this season.

That is a tremendous amount of fire power which hasn’t been used yet.

Myself, as well as every other college wrestling fan in the country, is chomping at the bit to see if the Wolverines unleash their full potential against No. 4 Arizona on January 3rd.

And if they do?

Things could get seriously ugly for Arizona State.
