Penn State Football might not yet be done losing assistant coaches as Bruce Feldman is reporting that Oregon is targeting special teams coordinator Joe Lorig

Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports is reporting this morning that Oregon is targeting Penn State Football’s special teams coordinator Joe Lorig.

Feldman notes in his tweet that Lorig and new Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning spent two seasons together on the Memphis staff in 2016-2017.

Lorig has been with Penn State Football since 2019, serving as the the special teams coordinator as well as the outside linebackers/nickels coach under James Franklin.

He has 24 years of collegiate coaching experience under his belt, so it makes sense that Lanning who just took over in Eugune which is his first head coaching gig, is trying to build a staff full of experienced coaches. Interestingly enough, Lorig has spent eight seasons as a special teams coordinator and eight as a defensive coordinator. Before joining the staff at Penn State Football he served as the special teams coordinator at Texas Tech.

The Nittany Lions have had very good special teams play under Lorig the past three seasons, with kicker Jordan Stout and have touchdown returns on both kickoffs and punts by Jahan Dotson and Lamont Wade. Penn State Football has not allowed a kick return or punt return touchdown against them in that time either.
