Penn State Football safety – Christian Driver

Nittany Nation got a nice, early Christmas gift when Ji’Ayir Brown announced that he will be returning to Penn State next season. However, James Franklin still has to replace one of the top safeties in the country in Jaquan Brisker.

Christian Driver is the second-highest rated defensive player in Penn State’s 2022 class, and he is listed as a safety by 247 Sports, although he could play a variety of positions.

He also possesses the capability to play wide receiver, just like his dad did for the Green Bay Packers (Donald Driver), though he probably will not be needed at that position.

However, his ball skills will be a great asset in the defensive backfield, where he could also play cornerback.

At safety, Driver has a lot of talent/experience to compete with in Keaton Ellis and Jaylen Reed. Kalen King, Daequan Hardy, Johnny Dixon, and potentially Joey Porter Jr will be back at cornerback, so the true freshman defensive back may not see much of any time there as a freshman.

Christian Driver enters a loaded secondary, so it is highly unlikely that he will start or play a ton of snaps in 2022, but with his talent, there is a great chance we will see some of him in the defensive backfield this season.

Often times, defensive players (especially defensive backs) who do not start, see a lot of time on special teams early in their career, which could be the case for Driver.

Don’t be shocked to see Christian Driver on the field in some capacity quite a bit in 2022.
