Penn State Football has seen two starting linebackers already move on to the NFL this offseason, but got some good news Tuesday with the return of safety Ji’Ayir Brown

This week saw several key contributors to Penn State Football’s defense announce they are entering the NFL Draft, foregoing eligibility, but the Nittany Lions got some good news on that front Tuesday.

The Nittany Lions got a huge offseason ‘W’ on Tuesday when safety Ji’Ayir Brown announced via his twitter profile that he will be returning for the 2022 season.

Brown finished third on the team in tackles behind only Ellis Brooks and Brandon Smith with 67 total tackles to go along with four interceptions, five pass breakups and a forced fumble. With those two linebackers and presumably Jaquan Brisker off to the NFL, this huge news for Manny Diaz and Penn State Football.

Brisker and Brown, former teammates at Lackawanna Community College formed one of the best safety tandems not only in the Big Ten, but in the country. Brown returning will keep one half of the Lackawanna connection in-tact and bring valued experience to the secondary next season.

Brown had two memorable plays this least season, one coming in week one at Wisconsin where he picked off quarterback Graham Mertz to end the game. HIs second, and maybe more memorable, came in the trip to Maryland where he intercepted quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa and returned it 87 yards for a touchdown, putting Penn State Football up 17 and icing a road victory.

Penn State Football is still awaiting some announcements from key players on defense like PJ Mustipher and Jesse Luketa.
