Chris Godwin’s season over after tearing his ACL on vicious hit vs. Saints
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin suffered a torn ACL Sunday night, ending his 2021 season
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin’s 2021 NFL season is over, after the former Penn State Football standout suffered a torn ACL against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday night.
Godwin was injured when he caught a pass over the middle of the field when Saints defensive back P.J. Williams tackled him below the knee.
The Buccaneers originally believed that Godwin suffered an MCL injury and could return in time for the postseason, however, an MRI revealed the team’s worst fears and that Godwin has torn his ACL which ends his 2021 campaign.
Godwin’s injury is a particularly bitter pill to swallow for the 25-year-old was playing this season on the franchise tag, meaning he has no long-term security beyond this season.
Widely viewed as one of the NFL’s premier slot receivers, Godwin finishes this season with a career-high 98 receptions for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns.
Losing Godwin will certainly make a significant impact on the Buccaneers’ offense, which was shut out after his and Mike Evans’ departure from Sunday night’s game, as the stretch run and NFL Playoffs loom.
Godwin had emerged as one of Tom Brady’s favorite targets, as the Buccaneers’ quarterback produced a 110.5 passer rating when targeting him.
