Penn State Football’s Mike Yurcich willing to ‘die trying’ to fix offense
By Chris Snyder
Penn State Football’s Offensive Coordinator, Mike Yurcich, offers a candid assessment of the Nittany Lions’ performance on the field in 2021
Regardless of the injuries at quarterback, regardless of the missed opportunities on offense, and regardless of who the Nittany Lions were playing against this past season, you could clearly see it. Penn State Football’s offense was broken in 2021.
I could see it, and so could my cat who likes to watch football while licking the tv screen.
Put another way, the Penn State offense this past season was simply not good enough.
They couldn’t run the ball, they couldn’t sustain drives, at times they couldn’t protect the quarterback, and ultimately they couldn’t get the job done.
Which is the main reason Penn State sits at a disappointing 7-5 on the season with their matchup against Arkansas in the Outback Bowl coming up.
Before getting to Mike Yurcich’s assessment of Penn State Football’s season, let me show you a list of numbers:
23
14
2
10
4
19
84
Any idea as to what these are?
No, these are not PowerBall numbers, nor are they the numbers characters had to punch into the anti-magnet machine in Lost.
These are the national rankings for total offense for Mike Yurcich lead offenses from the past seven seasons.
Yeah, I didn’t think he would be pleased with the results.
And for all of the naysayers screaming that Mike Yurcich’s offense won’t work in the Big Ten?
Oh, and that third number from the bottom (“4”) was the total offense rank for a Mike Yurcich team in the Big Ten.
I have complete faith he will turn this around. He’s a proven coach at every level. But the question remains, will he have the necessary players and an environment conducive for his success to build upon?
Let’s hope so because Yurcich certainly has his work cut out for him.
