Third String: Christian Veilleux(SO)

I’m buying in on the Drew Allar hype and say he beats out Christian Veilleux.

Christian Veilleux looked great in the three quarters that he played against Rutgers. But, we do have to keep in mind that it was against Rutgers.

Even so, 235 yards on 15 completions and three touchdowns is nothing to scoff at.

Veilleux’s performance will give you the confidence that all is not lost if he is in the game. The only downside I see is, it took the Ta’Quan Roberson disaster at Iowa for him to pass Roberson on the depth chart this year.

Veilleux will only get better with more reps and another spring season under his belt. He is the safer option as the backup Quarterback, but, the ceiling appears to be higher with Drew Allar.

Either way, Penn State will have one of the deeper Quarterback rooms in the nation, which hasn’t been the case in recent years. When fans see Veilleux run into the huddle, we know he is at least capable of putting some drives together.
