Former Penn State Basketball head coach Pat Chambers has been promoted from a volunteer assistant, to full-time member of the La Salle coaching staff

Patrick Chambers has been promoted to Assistant Coach for the La Salle Explorers under Head Coach Ashley Howard.

Chambers was brought on board as a volunteer assistant coach just over a month ago, for the Atlantic 10 member La Salle, it seems things are going well as they now list Pat Chambers as the first Assistant Coach on their official athletic website.

His official bio now states ‘At the helm of the Penn State Nittany Lions program for nine seasons … Chambers accumulated 148 wins in College Town, highlighted by a 26-13 record in 2017-2018 and a NIT Championship.’

Ignoring ‘College Town’ (did they mean State College, or University Park), the bio goes on to talk about his two NCAA Tournament appearances for Boston University, his history working under Jay Wright and his Philadelphia University record-holding 709 assists under Herb McGee.

La Salle is 4-4 to start the year with wins over Albany, Army, Holy Cross and Fairleigh Dickinson and losses at Temple, Villanova and both Delaware and Sacred Heart in overtime.

Pat Chambers was surprisingly let go from Penn State after a former player that transferred out of the program (Rasir Bolton, who has transferred again from Iowa State to Gonzaga) stated Chambers used the word ‘noose’ in front of him.

Despite the actual quote saying he ‘wanted to help remove the noose around (his) neck’, a bungled but not ill-meaning reference trying to help him play more freely, Penn State moved on just prior to the start of the season.

Multiple players immediately defending Pat Chambers (including now NBA player Lamar Stevens).  Jim Ferry was then let go at the end of the year and is now coaching at UMBC.

Best of luck in Philly, Pat.  Glad to see #theclimb is alive and well.
