Spencer Rattler – Oklahoma

This is where the list of potential options gets a bit crazy, but very intriguing as Rattler is a name that would steal headlines not only in State College, but nationally.

Coming into the 2021 season, Rattler was a Heisman favorite at Oklahoma and the presumed first overall pick in the NFL Draft in April. He was benched for the highly touted freshman Caleb Williams against Texas and how been on the sidelines since, and has now entered the transfer portal.

Rattler was a highly touted recruit himself, a five star prospect ranked the 11th best player in the entire country by 247 sports out of Arizona.

He did throw for almost 1,500 yards and 11 touchdowns to five interceptions in six starts this season, and lit it up last year as well. In 2020, he threw for just over 3,000 yards with 28 touchdowns to only seven interceptions. He was benched in the Texas game in 2020 as well, but came back in and won them the game and then took off from there.

It is concerning that Rattler has his struggles in a Lincoln Reilly offense with that talent around him, and it is well known Rattler has some attitude issues. However, a benching and transferring may humble him.

A hungry Rattler to get back to the top and back to being a top draft pick could be a dangerous thing, as his talent is undeniable. He is the type of player who if it works out, could bring Penn State Football to the next level in 2022 and still allow for Allar to take over in 2023.
