Michigan State has yet to compete in a dual meet on the season but they’ve been busy racking up the tournament matches.

Sparty opened the season by participating in the 2021 Michigan State Open held in East Lansing, MI. I guess it would have been weird if they didn’t participate in their own tournament, right?

This year’s Michigan State Open had a plethora of talent compete from several top wrestling programs. Notable entries included grapplers from Oklahoma, Michigan, Illinois, Northern Illinois, Ohio State, Central Michigan, and Northwestern.

Rayvon Foley finished second in the 133 open division and freshman Chase Saldate picked up the title at the 157 open division, earning a fall in four of his five matches.

Michigan State then took part in the Navy Classic on November 20th in Annapolis, MD. The competition as this event was a notch below the Michigan State Open and the Spartans took advantage of it by notching the team title.

The Spartans had 10 grapplers place, of which two came in third, two came in second, and one claimed the crown at 133 (Rayvon Foley).

Next up for Michigan State is an away dual against Lock Haven on December 2nd.
