John Harrar ‘loyal and true,’ opens up about staying at Penn State Basketball, more

Life after Pat Chambers, for John Harrar and Penn State Basketball
Harrar was essentially re-recruited by new Penn State Basketball head coach Micah Shrewsberry.
From Shrewsberry’s arrival, Harrar says his new head coach’s philosophy is simple, straightforward, and valuable.
“What happens on the basketball court is not hard,” Harrar explains. “‘Let’s always keep that perspective.’ There’s other stuff out there in life that is hard.”
Off the court, Harrar says Shrewsberry has done a nice job of lightening the mood around practice, the facility, and on campus.
“He just has one-liners that kill me,” Harrar reveals. “During one early September in the Bryce Jordan Center, there was a bunch of flies in the gym, and he’s swatting these flies and says ‘It’s like Animal Kingdom in here, what’s going on?!'”
Beyond lightening the mood, Harrar says Shrewsberry already has a feel for the players on his roster.
“[Shrewsberry has an] ability to keep a level head and really knows when to get after it but also when to joke and have fun,” He explains.
Harrar also spoke about his favorite drink, saying Shrewsberry “kills Dr. Peppers” and every time he sees one, he thinks of his head coach.
Harrar spoke about Shrewsberry’s true joy of coaching and how much he “knows basketball.”
