Covering Penn State Wrestling’s first action of the season in a tri dual versus Sacred Heart and Oregon State in the Journeymen Duals

Penn State Wrestling got off to a fast and furious start in the 2021 Journeymen Duals at Spooky Nook (Manheim, PA).

The Nittany Lions‘ first dual meet was against Sacred Heart. And to say it wasn’t pretty is putting it mildly. Penn State Wrestling racked up four falls, three technical falls, and two major decisions on their way to a dominating 47-3 win over Sacred Heart.

Roman Bravo-Young, Nick Lee, Carter Starocci, and Greg Kerkvliet accounted for the four falls and newly added transfer Max Dean earned a technical fall in his Nittany Lion debut.

Next up on the evening for Penn State were the Oregon State Beavers.

The second of the two duals on the evening didn’t start the way the first one did as OSU’s Brandon Kaylor earned a decision over Penn State Wrestling’s Baylor Shunk to give the Beavers an early 3-0 lead.

The Nittany Lions then won each of the next three matches via decisions to take the lead 9-3. Oregon State’s Hunter Willits defeated Penn State’s Joey Blumer by a major decision to cut the lead to 9-7.

Then Penn State shut the door on the evening by winning the next four matches by technical fall, fall, major decision, and technical fall to win the dual 32-7 over Oregon State.

Of note on the evening were a couple of ranked matchups between PSU and OSU.
