Big Ten Basketball preseason power rankings: Where Does Penn State stand?
By Evan Smith
Iowa will finally look different as Luka Garza is in the NBA and surprising transfers Joe Wieskamp, CJ Fredrick and Jack Nunge all transferred.
The Hawkeyes will run a backcourt of Jordan Bohannon (yes, he’s still in the conference) and the head coach’s son, Connor McCaffery.
Using the transfer portal, Fran McCaffrey is going for the direct replacement of Garza with North Dakota transfer Filip Rebraca. This is likley more of a ‘repuatation’ power ranking, but I wouldn’t bet against Iowa making the NCAA Tournament yet again.
If any team was more frustrated than the Nittany Lions with the cancellation of the 2019-2020 season than the Nittany Lions, it could be the Scarlet Knights.
Unlike Penn State Basketball, however, Rutgers responded to the cancellation by re-earning an NCAA Tournament berth last year.
The Knights return Ron Harper Jr., and Geo Bakeras. The question is now can Steve Pikiell build consistent success in Piscataway.
This is a solid bubble team to make the NCAA Tournament.
Northwestern stunk last year, that’s right, worse even than Penn State Basketball!
But, they picked up a solid assistant coach this season, and still have big Pete Nance and Boo Buie, who can put up points.
It’s likely this team is on the outside looking in at the NCAA Touranment, but given their seasoned roster who have played in the conference for multiple years, they get the nod over the #12 team in the power rankings.
