Penn State Football vs Maryland: Key players for Nittany Lions to snap 3 game skid
By Nick Kreiser
Penn State Football left tackle – Rasheed Walker
Sean Clifford’s health has been one of the primary storylines over the past month, and it will also be important for him to remain healthy for the remainder of the season.
It is the left tackle’s job to protect his quarterback (thanks, Lawrence Taylor).
Although he looked much closer to 100% against Ohio State than he did against Illinois, Clifford was still under a lot of pressure Saturday night. Clifford was sacked four times by the Buckeyes, and was flushed from the pocket on numerous other occasions.
On his lone interception of the day which proved to be costly, Rasheed Walker got beat on a spin move which allowed the defender to get in Clifford’s face, causing an underthrown ball. Yes, Clifford could have done his part by not forcing the throw, but you know…cause and effect.
So, not allowing pressure on Clifford is not only important to prevent turnovers, but also in keeping the starting quarterback healthy where he can make plays with his legs.
Maryland is fourth in the Big Ten in sacks this season with 23.
If Walker and the offensive line can allow Clifford ample time to go through his progressions and get the ball into the hands of one of his playmakers, the Nittany Lions will be able to move the ball well and score a lot of points against the Terrapins.
