Putting together a pre-season Big Ten Wrestling Power Rankings to see who we have as the favorite to start out

With the 2021-2022 season drawing ever so close, let’s take a look at how we see the landscape of B1G Wrestling, including the prospects for Penn State Wrestling’s season, as of today.

Is Penn State Wrestling or Iowa at the top?

Will Gable Steveson lose a match? Can Maryland climb out from the eternal B1G gutter? Hopefully, we can answer all of these questions soon.

All rankings are listed as of the latest InterMat rankings.

Let’s get on with it!

team. 824. . . . Terrapins . 14

Dual Rank: NR
Record Last Season: 0-8
Ranked Wrestlers: 0

Alex Clemsen and the crew at Maryland are trying to shift the wrestling culture in College Park.

Namely, the fact the Terrapins don’t really have much of a culture and the Terrapins have been in the basement of the B1G since they joined back in 2014.

The future, however, is looking brighter for Maryland, as they landed the No. 11 overall recruiting class in 2021. The Terrapins are bringing in eight overall recruits with four of them being inside the top 100.

But, when it comes to B1G wrestling, Maryland needs to prove they don’t belong in dead last. Which is where I have them to start the season.

Maryland kicks off the season on November 7th as they travel to Clarion, PA to take part in the 2021 Clarion Open.
