Former Penn State Basketball coach Pat Chambers hired by LaSalle

Pat Chambers, Penn State Basketball’s former head coach, was hired by LaSalle as part of Ashley Howard’s coaching staff
Former Penn State Basketball head coach Pat Chambers has found his landing spot back in his hometown of Philadelphia, PA, sources confirm to FanSided.
Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, tweeted this morning that Chambers has joined Ashley Howard’s staff at La Salle as a volunteer coach.
Chambers’ title will be Special Assistant to the Head Coach.
As all Nittany Lions fans remember, Chambers was rather unceremoniously let go from Penn State Basketball almost exactly a year ago after reports surfaced he used the word ‘noose’ when speaking privately to former Nittany Lion basketball player Rasir Bolton.
Bolton by then had transferred to Iowa State, and has since moved onto Gonzaga. It’s worth noting Bolton also attended three different high schools and is now on his third college.
Lasalle finished 9-16 last year with a 6-11 record in conference play.
Last season, Lasalle was eliminated by St. Joseph’s in the Atlantic 10 Tournament, 72-66.
Led by head coach Ashley Howard since 2018, Lasalle seems like the perfect landing spot for Pat Chambers, who, like Howard, was previously an assistant coach for Villanova University and is a ‘Philly guy.’ Howard has a career 34-52 record as a head coach as the Explorers look to rebound in the 2021 -2022 season.
Unfortunately for Penn State Basketball, the Nittany Lions don’t have Lasalle on the schedule, with the last game between the Explorers and Penn State in 2013, a 79-72 victory for PSU a year after an 82-57 Lasalle win in the Palestra.
With no games in Philadelphia on the schedule this year, it will be interesting to see if new coach Micah Shrewsberry has an interest in continuing playing games in the City of Brotherly Love to keep the recruiting foothold created by Pat Chambers.
