Penn State Football finding special teams magic

As can be the case so often in college football, some special teams magic and miscues can have a heavy impact on a game.

It is very likely that the Nittany Lion offense will struggle to consistently move the ball against the Buckeyes, so the return game could play a major role in allowing Penn State Football to have a chance in this one.

First, a punt or kick return for a touchdown to steal a quick seven points would be big.

But, even if not, a big return that puts the Nittany Lion offense in good starting field position would also be a plus.

As for kicking and punting, if Jordan Stout can flip the field with some long punts, as well as be able to pin the Buckeye offense deep a few times, it would help out Penn State Football’s defense tremendously.

Even if Stout could drill a long field goal at some point to steal 3 points rather than having to punt the ball away, that could be helpful as well.

Finally, if the Lions’ special teams could block a field goal and/or a punt during this game, that would greatly increase the chances of a possible upset.

Nobody realizes how important special teams is until it decides a game. Maybe Penn State will be so fortunate on Saturday night.
