Remember when Rutgers was 3-0?

Well, conference play started.

It was fair to give the Scarlet Knights the benefit of the doubt for their first three losses, considering they came at the hands of teams currently ranked in the AP Poll top 10, but a 21-7 loss to a struggling Northwestern team is not defendable.

Rutgers managed only 63 rush yards and was penalized 11 times in the game. Bo Melton had a nice game, catching eight passes for 101 yards and a score, but other than that, there weren’t many bright spots in this one.

Winning on the road in conference play is tough, but Rutgers didn’t even put up a fight on Saturday. Those three straight losses may have sank this team. They do get a bye week this week and then play Illinois, so maybe they can get some momentum going.
